Love of all kinds is so inextricably tied with friendship for Nadia and I. It’s not just because we were friends for eleven years before we grew into a couple, but also, when you look at the people that we call family – both biological and chosen – the foundations of those bonds are built upon love, as well as joy and silliness and comfort, more than anything else.
Which is one of the reasons why our wedding was so wonderful. It was a relatively small ceremony held at The Fullerton Singapore’s Town Restaurant this past Saturday. We did the whole legal, Registry of Marriage thing on our anniversary as a couple first – a precursor to the big ol’ celebration next year.
In attendance were all kinds of people whom we call family. My cousin, Charissa (the inspiration for the main character of Worlds Apart, by the way), was crying alongside Nadia’s maids of honour, Marie and Rubyni (who’s the inspiration for one of the characters in Work-Life Balance). Kyle worked together with Nadia’s brother, Andy, to ensure that things ran smoothly and that the event was captured perfectly. Everyone was joking and laughing and catching up and getting to know each other.
It was a celebration of love in so many ways – and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate our own union.
Thank you so much to everyone who joined us, both in person and online. If you want to watch the ceremony, you can still do so – from two different points of view! – on Nadia’s Instagram account and mine, courtesy of our live streamers extraordinaire, Joline and Chris, respectively.
