The first teaser for Work-Life Balance went online about a day ago…
… and today, it looks like Ben, myself and the rest of the Difference Engine team have, more or less, finished up what we need to do for Internal Damnation.
Three years, man. That’s how long this pair of projects has been in the works. Four, really, if you count it from the moment when Felicia asked Ben and myself whether we’d ever be interested in doing something like what we’d done with Mr Memphis, but maybe on a larger scale.
As I eagerly wait for my comp copies to arrive this week, it’s wild to think about how far we’ve come. This project survived a pandemic. This project grew from just a book into a game too, and even… some other stuff we haven’t revealed yet. (What? You didn’t think we had any more surprises for you this close to the release date? Shame on you.)
But now? Now, it’s a little more than a week away before it’s finally out of our hands, and into yours. We’re excited. We’re nervous. We’re very, very tired. But we’re also proud of what we’ve put together. It’s the biggest project I’ve ever worked on – and I couldn’t be happier with it.
It’s also worth mentioning here that the team were particularly amazing over this last week.
There was a family emergency on my end, and instead of worrying about the game, Difference Engine and Ben assured me that they could handle it, and gave me the room to be where I was needed the most. It was probably the best ending to this journey that I could’ve asked for, and I can’t thank Ben, Felicia, Shreya, Melesa, Charlene, Wen Yeu and Claire enough.
You guys are the best.
